Celebrations all round Divemasters, Advanced Courses and best of all New Boat Captain :-)



This week has been a whirlwind of activity with Divemaster Intern Jeff who is doing really well, and completed his Advanced course this week

Daisy and Vince are working well together studying and practising their skills in the pool, each day some progress is made, not long now till the start of the Instructor Development course on the 30th January.

We were joined at abades by Rami and Juhani, for two fun recreational dives, they had an amazing time and saw Octopus, Cuttlefish and a small Ray.  Unfortunately Juhanni is back off home but Rami is going to join us next week to start his PADI Advanced Open Water course.

Daisy has finally become a PADI Divemaster so a huge congratulations to her, she completed her kit exchange with Vince and they both performed the problem solving activity in a very controlled manner, so well done guys.

Isobelle intern wannabe joined us for her Advanced Open Water course, on the first day they headed off to Abades, where Isobelle completed her Navigation and Search and Recovery exercises, she did really well, as well as enjoying being back in the water.

Another returning intern Gus has arrived back, its a pleasure to have the old divemaster interns come back to the centre, its always great to see their smiley faces, and Gus has fitted right back in as if he never left!

The next day they all headed off to at the crack of dawn off to complete Izi's Night dive for her PADI Advanced Open Water Course, they had a great dive, and enjoyed seeing all the sleeping fish.  Vince was gutted not to see an Angel shark but loved it anyway.

Then the team headed off to Tabaiba after a nice hot drink with Kenneth, Ryan Vince and Gus.  This time to complete Izi's Deep and Wreck dives.  They had a great time on the dives, lots of barracuda and bream circling the wreck , and they also went off to see the small dog statue.

Congratulations to Izi for passing her Advanced Open Water diver course, we all hope to see Izi back later this year to join us for her PADI Divemaster Internship.

Then amazing news, we found a new boat Captain Marta, shes Spanish and also a PADI Instructor so good news for Dive and Sea Tenerife all round!

So off we went to Poco Naufragio, we were joined by Ryan, Gus, and Vince, where they had an amazing time with a large round ray, who was very interested in the divers, as well as a large shoal of barracuda, and a small black moray all in all a very impressive dive.

Then the team headed off to Pequeno Valle, to complete the navigation exercises for Jeff, all completed really well.  Finally Jeff has completed his Advanced Open Water Diver course.  Well done Jeff!

Jeff, Daisy Vince and Tinman headed down to the pool to complete their skill circuits always good practice for the trainee Instructors to help a new intern with their skills.

Tinman then took them all for some fun dives at Abades where Jeff was mapping the site, we are all looking forward to the finished result!

And another week has flown by here at Mermaid Diving, lots of fun with our customers and interns.

Welcoming back familiar faces and new interns!! a busy start to the new year



a Bright start to the week, with Phil and Marta for their Rescue Course Scenarios, we headed off to Marina Sur and out into the bay, we had a great dive to start off with and saw a friendly cuttle fish, before starting with the rescue exercises.

They both had a great morning and thanks to Daisy and Minnie for playing stooges!  Congratulations to Marta for passing her Rescue Course, Phil just has the exam to sit ......

Great news as we welcomed new intern Jack aka Jeff to the Dive Centre.  Jeff has joined the eight week PADI Divemaster Internship as an Open Water diver and first of all we headed down to the pool to complete his Scuba Review, Jeffs skills were already of a high standard so we are looking forward to seeing him progress.  Another great session for Daisy who is practising for her Instructor Development course starting January 30th.

Melissa and Jeff went through his Induction, a nice quick morning and then lots of study for Jeff, with the Advanced Dvd and the start of the EFR dvd.

Welcome back to Tinman, new Instructor who has come back to gain some experience as an Instructor, so that he can work towards his Maste Scuba Diver Trainer, he is also planning on completing some instructor Specialites while he is here too.  As always its a pleasure to welcome back a familiar face.

Tinman dived straight in on tuesday with a trip to Abades with Sandra, Martin, Tony and Ann they had a great morning out and really enjoyed the dives, where they saw Cuttle fish, Barracuda as well as wrasse bream and damsels.

A very early start for everyone at Abades for the night dive joining us for this dive  was Ann, Phil, Jens, Tinman, Jeff, and Daisy.  We had the most amazing nightdive, and were so lucky to see two Angel Sharks, White spotted octopus, cuttlefish as well as hundreds of sleeping fish, we all had an amazing time, then they all headed off to Las Eras joined by Sandra, Martin and then they were lucky enough to see yet another Angel shark, the team were on a high when they arrived back.

Congratulations to Jens for passing his Advanced Open Water Course!! We look forward to seeing him back for more diving soon as Jens is a resident here in Tenerife.

A new site to the team at dive and sea at Radazul, after a good session in the pool for Discover Scuba diving with Jacqui, Robyn and Nathan they all did really well in the pool and were excited to complete their dive at Radazul, on the open water dive they were joined by Dad tony, and Richard, Tony and Ann.  We all had a fantastic couple of dives despite the SNOW thats right snow in radazul and lots of rain :-)

On the right side of the dive site you could see lots of anemones, Trumpet fish and lots of scorpian,fish, then on the second dive off to the left hand side we found a nativity scene and lots of barracuda.  Two great dives.

Ann, loved this dive so much she begged Tinman to return there for her last dives on this visit to Tenerife.  Off they went to explore, Jeff, Daisy and Tinman, they had two amazing dives the day could not have been different bright sunny skies and calm seas.  They were really happy to discover a christmas tree that had been sunk by the local divers, as well as finding lots of gorgeous anemones large shoals of barracuda.

Its a week of arrivals as Vince has returned to start his Pre IDC training, as he starts his PADI Instructor Development course with Daisy on January 30th!  Lots of hardwork for both of them ahead this month.

A team night out was called for and everyone headed into Las Americas for Food and drink.  We all had a wonderful night out and were glad of the day off on saturday to recover!

A fabulous End to 2013 and a promising start to 2014

What a fantastic end to the year, and bringing of the new year all in one week.

Its great to have Ann, Richard and David back with us for some more dives, off we headed to Tabaiba, a glorious sunny day, with Daisy, Minnie, Melissa, an Phil.

Phil was there to complete his final dive of his Advanced Open Water course, while Divemaster Interns Daisy and Minnie were there to observe

An amazing morning , great visibility, and a huge shoal of baracuda as well as lots of friendly octopus, and still back in time for a spot of lunch, before heading down to the pool with Daisy to complete her Divemaster skills.


Next up was Las Eras and despite only being able to complete 1 dive it was an amazing dive that we all enjoyed, we were jouined by Phil, Roy, Richard and David.  On the dive we were all lucky to see an Angel Shark, which daisy had spookily predicted that morning.

It was the first angle shark that we had seen here at Mermaid Diving for the current season so everyone came away with huge smiles.

A very welcome day off following New Years eve celebrations, and then back off to EL Puertito to go and see the turtles, on the dive we were joined by Tony, David, Richard, Ann and Lloyd.

Happily we all managed to see the turtles, as well as cuttlefish and octopus, there is always a great amount of life at El Puertito and looking amonst the rocky areas you will find, large starfish, hermit crabs, Annulated brittle stars and arrow crabs.

Daisy was really happy to get her Stamina assessments for her Divemaster course out of the way, she did really well depsite her poor ribs and was happy with all of her scores.  Well done Daisy only a few more items and you will soon be a Divemaster!!!

Another trip to tabaiba this week, with Lloyd, Tony, David and Richard, we had two amazing dives, calm waters and good visability were a bonus.  On the dives the Wreck was encircled by a large shoal of bream with a few baracuda looking for breakfast no doubt!

In the afternoon it was time for Ann and Marta to complete their Emergency Provider course.  They had a fun afternoon, getting used to the various options available for providing oxygen.

A bright and early start the next day as we headed off to Abades with Marta, Ann, Lloyd, Tony and Richard to Abades.  On the dives they saw two common rays sat happily eating while they hovered watching, as well as Moray Eels, and cuttlefish, a lovely bright morning.

Marta and Phil then joined us to complete their Rescue exercises, with Ann as the stooge it was great fun and they had a fun afternoon going through each of the scenarios, the best part as always is watching them bring the unresponsive victim back onto the boat :-)

A great busy week, with lots of fun clients we are looking forward to next week completing the Rescue Course for Phil and Marta and of course welcoming Tinman, new Instructor back into the dive centre, and New Intern Jack aka Jack to the Internship program.






















Project AWARE dives and the arrival of new interns!!



Another busy week here and the arrival of new Interns Hannah and Eric.  Hannah is from the UK, and has joined us for her eight week PADI Divemaster internship as a PADI Open Water diver and is on break from her university studies.  Eric is from the USA and also joined us as an Open Water Diver, and will be returning to college at the end of his internship.

We started off the week at El Puertito with Neda and Sean they had a great time and were so thrilled that they had seen the turtles.   Neda has a massive smile on her face the whole way home.  As usual it was a fantastic dive, and we had the turtles following along as we swam along around the dive site.

Next, a fun night dive for Gary, Patrick and Stiven led by Pete at Poco Naufragio.  All of the Interns came out of the water with huge grins on their faces as they had an amazing dive.  Melissa always says night are like Marmite you either love em or hate em!!  These three new divers are all of the LOVE IT variety, so despite the early hour they all had a great day, completing skills in the pool and general study.

Neda and Sean were back again and off to Abades with Melissa where they had two amazing dives they were really happy to see Cuttlefish, Octopus and lost of Wrasse, Bream, Damsels and Parrot fish.  Unfortunatley this was there last dive with us, and off they went to relax for the remainder of their holiday.

Patrick and Stiven were off to Yellow Mountain with Dan for more mapping skills for Stiven, Luckily they found their way to the swim through and back again in a timely manner lol!

Alice headed out with Patrick Gary and Stiven to Abades for three fun dives.  They were really happy to see Rays, and Octopus they had a really good fun morning and arrived back at the centre full of beans.

Then the arrival of the New Interns Hannah and Eric, its always so nice to have new interns arriving and joining the team, as tradition dictates they soon had new names Montana and Bananaman!!!  Even more suitable when we first saw Erics wetsuit with Yellow Arms!!

The first day started with their induction and scuba review, they had a great day and we all ended up in the bar after a long days work.
