A fantastic, accomplished week at Mermaid Diving

This has been another busy week for PADI Divemaster intern training. Buzz took and passed his rescue exam. We did the open water rescue training at Abades where the military were also doing helicopter training. This meant I had to keep stopping Buzz doing the in water  rescue breaths via a pocket mask as I did not want the crew of one of the low flying helicopters thinking we had a real emergency. I dread to think how the scenario would have ended up with them getting involved.

Buzz and Flounder also did their mapping exercise and mapped 2 reefs at Abades. Buzz also completed an emergency action plan. Randall has been working hard preparing himself for the Instructor development course which starts next week.

Flounder has completed his timed 400 metre swim and did a superb kit exchange with Randall making it look very easy and effortless. Flounder also completed his Divemaster skills evaluation and did very well. This has been a good week for Flounder who has now passed his Divemaster course. I must say that he has impressed me with his enthusiasm, commitment and has been a real pleasure to teach.  “Congratulations and well done Flounder!” We are lucky that he is staying with us until the next Instructor course which is in September.

We dived at Radazul with Chris where we had 2 good dives seeing lots of different fish types including large Groupers and Trumpet fish.

I took the interns to the Yellow Mountain dive site on Friday where we went through the Swim Through which is a cave with a hole in the top, and across Crocodile rock. The visibility was excellent and we saw octopus, cuttlefish and lots of blue finned Damsel fish. The volcanic floor looks how I imagine the moon surface looks close up with its craters.

The weather this week has been great and the sea temperature is now 20 /21 degrees which is fantastic. Visibility for diving has been good and the sea conditions calm.

It just leaves me to say ” If you are considering a Divemaster internship, this is fantastic place to do it or  if you considering a diving holiday the island has lots of interesting and varied sites to dive”
